ESRIG professor Wouter Peters appointed as a member of the Scientific Climate Council (WKR)

ESRIGs professor Wouter Peters is appointed as a member of the Scientific Climate Council (WKR) together with three other UG researchers This was announced by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. This independent advisory council will advise the cabinet on climate policy.

Multidisciplinary council

The WKR consists of ten members with diverse backgrounds. The three RUG researchers are experts from various scientific disciplines. Linda Steg is professor of Environmental Psychology at the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Machiel Mulder is professor of Energy Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and Wouter Peters is professor of 'Modelling of the Atmospheric Composition' at the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Earlier this year Prof. Jan Willem Erisman was appointed as chairman.

Extremely proud

Professor Jouke de Vries, chair of the Executive Board, is very pleased with the appointment of no fewer than three RUG researchers to the Scientific Climate Council. “In the Strategic Plan, we have set ourselves the goal of contributing to solutions for the major social challenges of our time. Climate change presents us with a task that should not be underestimated. A task that calls for a cross-disciplinary approach, for the bundling of scientific knowledge and skills. The appointment of these three RUG professors, experts in the field of behaviour, energy markets and climatology, underlines the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the strength of our broad university. I am extremely proud of the involvement of Linda Steg, Machiel Mulder and Wouter Peters in national climate policy.'
