Dr Rolf Hoving appointed Extraordinary Professor of Supervision of Governmental Criminal Proceedings

As per 1 September 2023, Dr Rolf Hoving has been appointed Extraordinary Professor of Supervision of Government Criminal Proceedings at the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen. The chair was established by the Foundation for the Advancement of Education and Research in Criminal Law.

Supervision of governmental criminal proceedings

The supervision of governmental criminal proceedings is increasingly an important topic within criminal law. For this reason, a chair in Supervision of Government Criminal Proceedings was established at the University of Groningen in 2018. The chair's appointment term is five years, with a one-time possibility of reappointment. Hoving will take over from Prof. Alex Harteveld.

Curriculum vitae

Rolf Hoving obtained his PhD in 2017, for which he conducted research on experts in the criminal process. Since then he has been working as associate professor and researcher of criminal (procedural) law at our faculty. His expertise is in the field of criminal procedure and evidence law, including the position of experts and victims in the criminal process and the handling of evidence, procedural documents and data.

Since 2020, Hoving has also been an academic associate at the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service. He is involved in the preparation of consultation opinions. He is also secretary of the Quality Development Reflection Chamber, where he works on reflecting on what the Public Prosecution Service can learn from procedural deficiencies identified by the courts and developing the recommendations of the Reflection Chamber.
