The International Law Department at the Faculty of Law has
been named as the top-spot in the Netherlands to study international law. The ranking is according to the latest Keuzegids Higher Education Guide 2017 – Master’s programmes, which includes descriptions of all higher education master’s programmes officially registered in the Netherlands. The guide offers a quality assessment for most of these programmes reflecting student evaluations.
in international law refers jointly to the Faculty of Law’s English language LLM degree programmes in
International and Human Rights Law
Public International Law
(PIL)*. When hearing about this award being given for a second consecutive year,
Prof. Dr. Marcel Brus
, the Academic Director of both programmes, replied “This makes me very proud. We have invested in well-balanced programmes in the field of international law that provide a strong knowledge base, training of essential skills in research and communication, while allowing some flexibility in choices that students can make. This is only possible due to the dedication of all lecturers and of our very well-organised international office. This confirms the position of Groningen as a vibrant and highly internationalised university”.
Not only did the IHRL and PIL programmes receive a top ranking, they have also been designated (jointly) as a
Top Rated Programme by the editorial board of the publication. This is given to programmes that have scored 76 points or higher on evaluations. The programmes are only two of many recently designated as
Top Rated Programmes
at the University of Groningen
Third in the ranking among programmes was the Faculty of Law’s English language LLM in
European Economic Law
(EEL)**, demonstrating the Faculty’s further expertise in the fields of international and European Law. Academic Director of the EEL programme,
Prof. Dr. Laurence Gormely
, noted “It’s very gratifying to know that our students think so greatly of our programme. Our highly qualified staff offer research-based teaching which is designed to equip our graduates with the tools for development of an academic or professional career. Like European law itself, our programme itself is constantly in development and we hope to continue to attract extremely qualified and highly motivated students. Our graduates are our best ambassadors”.
These programmes, as well as the rest of the one-year, English taught
at the Faculty, are currently accepting
for studies beginning in September 2017.
*Both programmes are
accredited in the Netherlands under the LLM CROHO label International Law and the Law of International Organizations (60605).
**This programme is accredited in the Netherlands under the LLM CROHO label European Law (60602). It was also previously known as European Market Law.
