Cino del Duca award for organic chemist Feringa
Prof. Ben L. Feringa, professor of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, has been awarded the 2012 Grand Prix scientifique Cino del Duca for his work in molecular machines and biological nanomachines. The prize consists of EUR 364,000 to fund further research and recruit one or more postdoctoral fellow(s). The awarding foundation provides significant support for scientific research, in particular for biomedical research, including oncology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics.
Simone and Cino del Duca Foundation
The Simone and Cino del Duca Foundation is a charitable foundation based in Paris. It was established in 1975 by Simone del Duca, widow of publishing magnate Cino del Duca, and is a substantial and important contributor to the arts in France and humanities worldwide. Prof. Feringa will receive the price on June 6th during a ceremony held under the Coupole of the Institut de France.
Electrically powered nanovehicle
The 2012 Grand Prix scientifique Cino del Duca is awarded on the theme molecular machines and biological nanomachines, a field extending broadly from the study of large, natural macromolecular complexes, responsible for essential functions to cellular life, to the development of new materials and the construction of synthetic molecular machines. The prize addresses original works at the nanometric scale at the interface between the biological and the chemical sciences. The 2012 price is awarded to Ben Feringa for his work on electrically powered nanovehicle.
