Courses


 

In 2004 some 125 students followed courses in archaeology at the Groningen Institute of Archaeology. All students participate in GIA fieldwork projects, and often in the analysis of research data as part of their BA- or MA- thesis as well. In 2004 the institute conducted fieldwork in Swifterbant and Wierum (The Netherlands), the Pontine region ( Italy) , Halos ( Greece) and the Fayum ( Egypt) .

 

The Educational Program in Archaeology of the University of Groningen has the following teaching courses:

 

1. Bachelor Archaeology: three years of study in the Pre- and protohistorical archaeology of North-western Europe , the Classical and Mediterranean Archaeology and Ecological Archaeology. Information: dr. E. van 't Lindenhout


2. Master Archaeology: one year of study; specialisations: Pre- and protohistorical archaeology, Classical and Mediterranean Archaeology and Ecological Archaeology. Information: dr. E. van 't Lindenhout

3. Research Master Art History and Archaeology: Material Studies in Art, Architecture and Archaeology: two years of study for excellent students who aim at a career in research. Information: prof. dr. P.A.J. Attema.


4. Socrates/Erasmus exchange students: the Archaeology department of RuG has student mobility agreements with universities in several countries. Information: dr. A.J. Nijboer.


5. Ph.D Students: GIA has some posts for Ph.D Students. For foreign students Ubbo Emmius Ph.D. scholarships are available as well. Information: prof. dr. D.C.M. Raemaekers.
