The term 'gender' denotes the meaning cultures ascribe to the difference between the sexes. The meaning of the concepts of 'man' and 'woman' varies from culture to culture, and from period to period. The Arts-disciplines focus on how these meanings are created, in word and in image.
This question guides both education and research of the Centre for Gender studies of the Faculty of Arts (CGS).
In the CGS participate the Departments of Arts, culture and media studies, Communication and information studies, Dutch, English, History, International organisations and relations, and Roman, Scandinavian and Slavic languages and cultures.
The CGS has a board: dr Petra Broomans (chair), drs Ester Jiresch, drs Laura Fahnenbruck (sec.) and drs Esmeralda Tijhoff.
