Exchange programme

The Centre for Canadian Studies has concluded agreements with several Canadian universities:  

The deadline for applications for exchange in 2012-2013 is 1 February 2012. Please send a motivation letter (for Sherbrooke and Laval in French), a CV, a transcript of your study results and fill out the form that is available via canstudy@rug.nl.

Minor in Canadian Studies

Each year, the Canadian Studies Centre offers a 20 ECTS minor for undergraduates in Canadian Studies entitled "Aspects of a multicultural society". The language of instruction for the first part is English, for the other parts it is Dutch. The minor consists of four parts fo 5 ECTS each, which can be taken individually:

  • Multiculturalism in anglophone Canada  LMID03B05

    Semester I, weeks 1 - 7

    The central theme in the first part of the minor is multiculturalism in the literature and culture of anglophone Canada. The cultural identity of angophone Canada will be studied in the framework of a multicultural context: (post)colonialism and representation of national cultural identity; "citizenship" and the "Multiculturalism Act". In addition, issues such as the consequences for the Canadian cultural identity of globalization and Americanization will be discussed. Theoretical aspects will be studied using modern literary works.
