Opening faculty academic year

The programme is entitled "The experience of the earthquake: man as epicentre". Several speakers will focus on the human side of the 'Groningen Earthquakes'. After the official opening at 15.45 by the Faculty Board, Sharon Smit (Sustainable Society) will give an introduction to the theme. Katherine Stroebe (Social Psychology) and research master student Carla Roos will subsequently discuss two recent research projects from Groningen on the emotional impact of the earthquakes and the social unrest in the earthquake area. The official part of the programme will be concluded with a panel discussion in which, amongst others, the philosopher Frank Hindriks (Faculty of Philosophy), Janka Stoker (FEB)and Mischa de Gier from the Municipality of Groningen will place the theme in a broader, social context.
After the official programme, there will be a festive gathering at the ‘Orangerie’.
The opening of the faculty year will be organized together with ‘Sustainable Society’ and the recently established Knowledge Centre Earthquakes.
