Evidence-based education

One of the ways to promote the quality of education is by increasing the use of an approach, method or project that is known to have positive effects. The Top Institute for Evidence-Based Education Research (TIER) has been established with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of various approaches. TIER is a collaborative effort of researchers from the GION, the University of Amsterdam and Maastricht University.

The research within the GION focuses on the use and the effects of performance standards in primary education. In cooperation with schools, interventions are developed to support teachers in working with performance standards in the fields of language, mathematics and metacognitive skills. In due course the effects of these interventions on pupil performance will be assessed. More information about TIER can be found on www.tierweb.nl .
