The Group Molecular Cell Biology of the Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute (University of Groningen), as participant in the B-Basic consortium (Bio-Based Sustainable Industrial Chemistry), announces the B-Basic Masterclass “Single Cell and Single Molecule Analysis”.
B-Basic is a consortium of universities (Leiden, Delft, Wageningen and Groningen), research institutions and industry. Its program focuses on the development of new bio-based production concepts for the chemical (and energy) industry that are rooted in the current explosive increase in fundamental insights in molecular biology through the genomics revolution, combined with advanced bioprocess technology, and existing chemical knowledge (www.b-basic.nl). One of the tasks of this program is scientific training. Therefore, several initiatives are developed amongst which the organization of Masterclasses and other courses.
The objective of the masterclass is to introduce students to the latest developments in single molecule and single cell analysis. Single molecule analysis includes a range of fluorescence and spectroscopy techniques as well as single particle analysis by electron microscopy. The lectures on single cell analysis focus on single cell omics approaches, analysis of single cells in microfluidic systems as well as microscopy techniques (fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, correlative microscopy, automated quantitative high through-put and high-content microcopy).Information on the approaches and tools used, their advantages and disadvantages as well as recent examples in molecular (cell) biology research will be presented.
The masterclass consists of two days of lectures, which will be intensive and interactive. The lectures are offered by internationally renowned experts in the field (the "masters"). In order to allow intensive interaction between the masters and the participants, the masters are requested to participate in the daily discussions with students and participants. Participants are encouraged to present their research as well.
