Jasper Veldman appointed as Professor of Technology and Operations Management
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) is pleased to announce that Dr. Jasper Veldman has been appointed as Professor of Technology and Operations Management. The chair is situated within the department of Operations.
Jasper Veldman has a long history at FEB, having also obtained his MSc in Business Administration (2004) and his PhD (2011) here. Between 2009 and 2013, he was an assistant professor at the University of Twente. He returned to Groningen in 2013. Veldman is an expert in technology management and the strategic aspects of operations and supply chain management. He has been involved in several large research projects focusing on the operations and maintenance of offshore (wind) energy production, such as the NWO- and TKI Dinalog-funded project ‘Sustainable service logistics for offshore wind farms’ and ‘SLOEP’ (Service Logistics for Offshore Energy Production).
Veldman’s research interests are technology management (particularly maintenance management) and strategic decisions in supply chains, often with a focus on energy production. Recently he started to look at the implications of the right to repair movement. His research has been published in various international journals, including Production and Operations Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews. Apart from his own research activities, Veldman is also closely involved in education and the supervision of PhD research: he was PhD coordinator at the FEB Research Institute (2016/2017) and the program coordinator of the MSc Technology and Operations Management (TOM) (2019-2023) and has supervised multiple PhD students over the past years. He teaches Technology Management in the BSc Business Administration and Asset Management in the MSc TOM.
Veldman looks forward to continuing his research and teaching activities as a full professor in the Technology and Operations Management domain. “Everyone sees the importance of taking better care of assets and products, from wind mills to mobile phones. We need more research into the policies, practices and supply chains to make this happen.”
