Festive Opening Academic Year FEB-EBF [Pictures]

FEB and EBF are looking back on a successful opening of our new academic year on 4 September. After the opening by professor Iris Vis and a welcome by Dean Harry Garretsen and EBF chairman Eva Markerink the speakers of the Leadership Panel were introduced: Dertje Meijer, CEO Port of Amsterdam and Timo Huges, President of NS. Both graduates of FEB.
During the break it was time to announce the winners of the FEB awards for best lecturer, best newcomer and best freshman of the year. And the event was concluded by a social with drinks, snacks and music and the presentation of a tree for our two new honorary doctors at FEB: Paul Polman and Dani Rodrik.
The winners:
► Freshman of the Year: Niels van der Laan, BSc Econometrics and Operations Research, average grade: 9,4!
► Lecturer of the Year: Prof. Maarten van der Vlerk, Econometrics and Operations Research, about who students say: "He sparks students' thirst for knowledge"
► Newcomer of the Year: Dr Michiel Gerritse about who students say: "He made the course interesting, giving examples and theories and showing how it is applicable in real life situations"

Guido Berends and Hylke Dijkstra win FEB Research Awards 2023
The awards for best PhD thesis and best graduate of the research master were presented at the annual PhD conference held on April 18. Guido Berends won the Best PhD Thesis Award 2023 and Hylke Dijkstra won the Research Master Graduate Award 2023.
