Your career readiness is not just an endpoint but an integral component of your education at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). In redesigning our curriculum, we aimed to equip you, as future graduates, with the right competencies and knowledge to enter a constantly changing labour market and make an impact in society.

Competencies that matter

We believe it is essential that upon completing your studies, you have a clear understanding of what set of competencies you developed. That is why at FEB we integrated key competencies in all our programmes, and in many programmes these are visualised. Have you thought of what competencies you would like to develop? Take a look below.

FEB Employability Framework

Empowering you today for tomorrow's challenges

What are we doing differently at FEB? Read more about how we prepare you for the labour market.

Preparing you for your future career
  • Prepare you for the future by making employability an essential part of our programmes and courses. This way, when entering the job market, you have the right competencies to tackle societal challenges.
  • Proactively shape your career profile by taking courses that focus on developing valuable competencies required in the job market. For instance, you might consider following the BSc minor ‘Data Analytics in Economics and Business’ or a Focus area in Future Prosperity and Sustainability.
  • Participate in professional skills development courses and real-life business cases brought by companies. This way FEB stimulates and supports your personal and professional development.
  • Choose from many extra-curricular activities at the faculty to help build up your resume. Did you know you can take a Master's internship and build some first-hand experience?
Professional skills training in your study

During your BSc or MSc study, you will get (inter)personal and professional skills training. This training helps you develop your communication skills, work efficiently in an intercultural environment, and teaches you how to deal with resistance and manage conflicts.

Here are some examples that you can encounter during your study:

  • Project management training for the BSc Business Administration;
  • Intercultural competence training for all students studying abroad;
  • Professional skills training in the MSc Human Resource Management and MSc Business Administration;
  • Negotiation training for the MSc Finance.

Your bridge to a future-ready career

Developing your competencies is one way to prepare for your future career. Another way is to connect earlier in your study with practice. That is why we set up activities for you to combine theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. As a FEB student, you can:

  • join with guest lecturers (practitioners, renowned economists, CEOs, entrepreneurs etc.) and learn from their experiences;
  • work on bringing solutions to real-life cases and present these in front of a board of directors or a business team;
  • connect with your future employer and explore your options by joining networking and Career events organised by FEB Career Services and Study associations.
What is a skills workshop and how can students gain valuable skills?

Aline Seepma, one of the winners of Best Practices in Teaching and Learning at FEB, tells you more about how students gain skills and meet practitioners from their field (Assistant Professor, teacher in the MSc Supply Chain Management)

The skills-tasting* is a good example of how students develop future-proof skills and put them into action. In a series of workshops, where we use real-world examples and case assignments designed in collaboration with purchasing experts (e.g. a CPO, purchasing manager, or purchasing director), students take leadership in their own skill-development journey. Students get to practice developing skills such as negotiation, strategic decision-making, cross-functional alignment, and strategic sourcing skills. What do students like the most about this? They get to work on real-life cases with professionals from their field and have a real-life perspective. They find it important that the atmosphere is open, and focussed on developing skills in a safe and inspiring setting.

*This workshop is part of the elective course Purchasing offered by the MSc Supply Chain Management programme.

Links with practice: why we bring you in touch with professionals during guest lectures and career events

David Peng, assistant professor and teacher in the BSc Economics and Business Economics (EBE), tells you more about the career events and activities organised for the students

We regularly invite keynote speakers to offer our students the opportunity to see how our education can be applied in practice. What’s more, the speeches can be an inspiration for students to reflect on what they may like to do after graduation. During career events, we invite company recruiters and expose the students to what the labour market needs in terms of competencies. Some students get a job after graduation during one of these events. We are aware that finding a job is a process and takes time. That is why we think it important that our students start to participate in career events as early as possible starting from their first year.*

*The BSc EBE Career Event consists of presentations and talks by keynote speakers, company recruiters, alumni and a networking moment at the end. The career event is held twice per academic year.
