New gridcluster being installed
Last Tuesday, august 30th the new Grid cluster arrived. This cluster will replace the nearly 5 year old hardware of the current cluster. HP is the supplier of the system that was bought with a grand from Big Grid. »
4k Video Seminar
After winning a 4k video contest organized by Surfnet and Waag Society we made a video to be used for education of Geographic Information Systems. During the Seminar innovatie en inspiratie in february 2011 Gert-Jan Verheij has given a presentation about how 4k video can effectively be used in this case. »
Mega Multitouch Screen
With a bit of DIY and some in-house software development we finished our super large touchscreen in january 2011. Its not only very big, but also very fast. It can easily handle ten persons at a time and will mainly be used for education and research. »
Science Linx
With an experimental and innovative project, the center for High Performance Computing and Visualisation delivered a new item to the permanent exhibit of Science Linx. Using augmented reality visitors can learn about very small or very big objects. »

Opening Reality Center
With some very nice demonstrations the renewed Reality Center was opened on may 28th. »
Real anxiety with virtual spiders
With a new virtual world created by Gerwin Kramer, a student at HPC/V, people can be treated for their fear of spiders. »
Opening Millipede compute cluster
With a small gathering of new user the Millipede cluster was made availlable for the scientists on May 15th 2010. »

Cluster sees the first light

New cluster is coming soon
With a speed of 30 Tflops, internal memory of 8 TByte and 132 TByte of disk storage the center for High Performance Computing and Visualisation will soon have a new cluster to offer to the scientist. »
Minister Cramer enjoys the Virtual Zoo in Emmen
On October 5, 2009 Emmen got a visit from minister Cramer. She got informed about the future plans of the zoo and the big Atalanta project for changing the city. »

Upgrade Reality Center
The current Reality Center is in need for an upgrade. The plans aim for more resolution, more light and backprojection. The demolishing of the old center started om march 10th 2009. »
Zoo in Emmen
For the zoo in Emmen we made a 3D visualisation of the plan for a new zoo. During the newyearparty of the local government (january 9th, 2009) the plan were presented to the general public on a spectacular stereo screen with a width of eight meters. »
Minister Donner watches Eemshaven in 3D
In the presence of Minister Donner, Harm Post (CEO of Groningen Seaports) gave a 3D presentation with our model of the Eemshaven and Delfzijl. The focus was on empoyment in the port. »
Prime Minister visits HPC/V
In the framework of a working visit Prime Minister Balkenende visited, on his own request, the CIT on wednesday, november 8, 2008. Because it was an informal viste, there was not much advance publicity. »
Regiotram Groningen
To help with the discussion about the new plans for a tram in Groningen, we created a 3D model of Groningen. The public could experience the virtual tram in stereo during a happening in the Martini kerk from june 6th till june 8th 2008. Outside on the Grote Markt, there was a real tram. »
Virtual butterflygarden
In March 2008, Roos Pals used our Reality Center to perform experiments inside a virtual butterflygarden. She wants to find out how to design a zoo attraction in such a way that people can relax better. »
Millenergy Open Days, Delfzijl
On 21-22 February 2008, the Millenergy Consortium presented their plans for the new windmill park 'Delfzijl Noord' to the citizens of Delfzijl. During these Millenergy Open Days, HPC/V showed the planned 20 windmills in 3D, giving viewers a realistic view of the visual impact of the windmills. »
Opening of the Bernouilliborg building
On February 7, 2008, the new Bernouilliborg building was officially opened by Koos Duppen, member of the Board of the University. On this occasion, HPC/V showed the 3D visualization of the new Life Sciences building, which is under construction next to the Bernouilliborg. »
Portable 3D system upgrade
In January 2008, the portable 3D system was upgraded to a widescreen backprojected screen with 2 high definition projectors.
