Dineke Verbeek works at the Department of Genetics, where she is studying the genetics and disease mechanisms of spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) and other neurodegenerative disorders. Her research group uses the latest next-generation sequencing technologies, including exome sequencing, to identify novel disease genes including SCA19 and SCA23. To gain better understanding of the underlying aetiology of cerebellar neurodegeneration in vitro and in vivo models are used such as Drosophila and mouse.
