FACAM colloquium book launch - JULIAN HANICH and MARTIN P. ROSSOUW: 'What Film Is Good For: On the Values of Spectatorship'

Please join us for the virtual book launch of 'What Film Is Good For: On the Values of Spectatorship', edited by Julian Hanich (University of Groningen) and Martin P. Rossouw (University of the Free State), hot off the presses at University of California Press.

Following a lively interview format, the launch will showcase a selection of the volume's thirty-four essays devoted to the variegated values of film spectatorship today. In a time of global crisis, strife, and suspicion, this conversation—as in our volume—will sound a more upbeat tone: that watching movies can be profoundly good in the various ways that they make us reflect, connect, and transfigure. To ask what film is good for, therefore, shows that 'film ethics'  is deep down everybody's business.
