Abstract
"What do I Know?" was Michel de Montaigne's central question. He considered this fundamental doubt to be the impetus for a creative process. Jeroen Lutters will take Montaigne's motto - which he also commented upon in his book The Ideal Teacher. In Search with Montaigne (Lemniscaat 2022), as an invitation to delve deeper into the arts and art education as a practice of unlearning.
About the speaker
Jeroen Lutters is a cultural historian. He received his doctorate from the University of Amsterdam (ASCA) on the topic of Art Based Learning (ABL). Since then, he published extensively on the subject. Among his publications are: In the Shadow of the Artwork: Art Based Learning in Practice, Studies in Art-Based Learning (3 volumes) and The Trade of the Teacher: Visual Thinking with Mieke Bal. An Oxford Handbook of Art Based (Un) Learning is in preparation and will be published by Oxford University Press in 2024.
He leads major research projects such as Didactics in the 21st Century (Fund for Cultural Participation) and Art-Based Learning in Palliative Care (RAAK PRO).
As an educational designer he designs innovative forms of education, such as: No University, Teacher College Windesheim, International Master Artist Educator and the Create Space Minor.
After several management positions, including the teacher colleges of the Hogeschool Utrecht, he was connected to Windesheim University of Applied Sciences as lector of art and cultural education and since 2014 he is lector Art Education as Critical Thinking (AeCT) at ArtEZ University of the Arts. He intensively collaborates with the UvA (ASCA Network) and UCHRI Irvine).
