Dr Dan Hassler-Forrest (Utrecht University) is the author of the new book Janelle Monáe's Queer Afrofuturism: Defying Every Label and Dr Magdalena Fürnkranz (University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna) is the author of a number of articles on Queer and Feminist popular music performance practices. In this discussion, both scholars will present on the impact of Monáe's work and will then engage in discussion across their two theoretical approaches.
