Practical course in Archaeology

General information
This course has been set up in collaboration with the Archaeological Association Northern Netherlands (AWN), the Groningen Institute of Archeology of the University of Groningen (GIA) and Bachur (Groningen Study Association Archeology). In six course evenings, a number of practically focused topics will be discussed, with emphasis on being able to recognize and identify archaeological remains in the field. It is a great opportunity for volunteers to learn skills that make them more employable in archaeological projects such as surveys and excavations. The subjects are:
- January 8: Introduction to archeology
- January 15: Soil features
- January 22: Bone material
- January 29: Flint
- February 5: Metal
- February 12: Pottery
Practical information
Time: Wednesday evenings, 8 January to 12 February from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM (7:00 PM walk-in) Costs: € 57.50 (including 1 drink per evening). A discount of € 7.50 applies to members of one of the archaeological associations in the Northern Netherlands. *
Location: Academiegebouw UG (room A7), Broerstraat 5, 9712 CP Groningen and the last evening in the Northern Archaeological Depot (NAD) Nieuweweg 76, 9364 PE Nuis.
Registration: send your name, address, telephone number and membership of an association, stating "basis cursus archeologie" to: cursusarcheologie gmail.com. You can also send questions to this address. There is room for a maximum of 30 students. The course is fully booked.
