Founded in 1614

If you are looking for a university with a long tradition of academic excellence, where you can develop your talents in a pleasant and international atmosphere, you will find it at the University of Groningen (in Dutch: Rijksuniversiteit Groningen or RUG).

Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen is one of the oldest research universities in Europe. Some 26,500 students are currently enrolled in more than 170 Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. Every year, about 2,500 students graduate from the University, and some 300 PhD theses are defended.

As our students and staff come from the Netherlands and from at least 100 other countries, the University of Groningen is truly international. Furthermore, with 5,000 employees and an annual turnover of 550 million euro, we are able to create a perfect climate for scientific research, educational innovation and personal development.
