Open Day at the University of Groningen: thorough introduction to up to four degree programmes
On Friday 31 January, over 5000 secondary school pupils will visit the Open Day at the University of Groningen, where they will be offered a thorough introduction to up to four degree programmes. The various degree programmes will – where possible – be presented in the buildings where they are actually taught, all across Groningen. Prospective students can also visit the information market, learn about the Honours College, follow a workshop on choosing a degree programme, visit the open office hour of the student counsellors or take a city walk.
Bachelor’s degree programme presentations
Follow a lecture, chat with students, lecturers and study advisors, visit a laboratory or computer room, perhaps meet the very people you’ll be studying with next year. Gain an impression of the city of Groningen, where you might live for four or five years sometime soon. Soak up information and taste the atmosphere – that’s what it’s all about at the University of Groningen Open Day on Friday 31 January. All the Bachelor’s degree programmes at the University will participate in the Open Day. Prospective students can visit up to four degree programmes – two in the morning and two in the afternoon.
Information markets
How do I apply to university? What are the ins and outs of student finance? What are the latest developments in ballot systems, selection procedures and matching? Is it difficult to find accommodation? What facilities are there for foreign students? Does Groningen have a fun introductory period? And which student associations are there? These and other questions will be answered during two general information markets held in the city centre (Academy Building) and at the Zernike Campus (Duisenberg Building).
Honours College open house
The University of Groningen has an Honours College for outstanding students, with quarters in the Academy Building tower. Secondary school pupils are welcome to drop in between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., where current Honours students will be happy to provide more information.
Choosing a Degree Programme workshop
Another thing you can do on the Open Day is visit a workshop on choosing a degree programme. Who are you, what are your strengths, what do you want? What should your ideal degree programme involve? These types of questions are dealt with during this workshop.
Student counsellors’ open office hour
Those who would like a quiet chat with a student counsellor about choosing a degree programme, studying with a disability, financial affairs or anything else of a private nature are welcome between 10 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. in lecture room A3 in the Academy Building.
City walks
And finally, there are limited places available to take a walk around the city centre, guided by current students.
