Would you like to stay connected to your favourite natural area online? Go to greenmapper.nl , the brainchild of economic geographer Frans Sijtsma of the University of Groningen. The site is not only a gift to nature-lovers in the Netherlands, but also of scientific importance. ‘It offers a lot to scientists,’ says Sijtsma. ‘All of these visitors contribute to a greater knowledge of who values nature and why, giving us greater understanding of effective online engagement with natural areas. How do people motivate each other to action if their favourite spot is threatened? What works, and what doesn’t?’
