Chris Visscher
Chris Visscher

Chris Visscher (1950) is bijzonder hoogleraar Jeugdsport, i.h.b. talentontwikkeling en de relatie sport en onderwijs, vanwege het NOC*NSF. Hij  was eerder leraar Lichamelijke Opvoeding en trainer bij FC Groningen. Visscher studeerde onderwijskunde aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. In 2000 promoveerde hij aan de RUG op het proefschrift: ‘Doofheid en sport, over de betekenis van doof zijn voor sportprestaties, lichamelijke fitheid, sportieve competentie en sociale acceptatie.’

Hij werkt sinds 1990 bij de disciplinegroep Bewegingswetenschappen in Groningen, sinds 2007 als voorzitter van de disciplinegroep. Naast zijn hoogleraarschap is hij o.a. als extern adviseur verbonden aan de Nederlandse Bond voor Aangepast Sporten, aan de sector Topsport van NOC*NSF, aan het Hanze Instituut voor Sportstudies van de Hanzehogeschool Groningen en aan het Instituut voor Sportstudies van de Hogeschool Arnhem-Nijmegen.

Visscher is een van de drijvende krachten achter het Sport Science Institute Groningen (SSIG). Dat nieuwe instituut richt zich op het verbeteren van de Nederlandse (top)sport; het ontwikkelingen van sportieve vaardigheden van kinderen; het bevorderen van een actieve leefstijl vanuit een gezondheidsmotief en het creëren van economische, sociale en culturele voordelen van sport.
