Come on an exchange to Groningen!
A short stay abroad as a part of your bachelor's or master's degree programme can be a lifelong advantage - an experience to remember all your life! It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet people from all over the world and experience a different way of (student) life. Not to mention, gaining
international study skills as well as intercultural and language skills can boost your career prospects.
Choosing the right country, city and university for your study stay abroad can be challenging: your guest-university should furnish you with the skills and knowledge for your specific academic field.
This website contains information for exchange students who are considering going on a study exchange and whose study programme relates to the following fields of study:
History, International Relations, Communication Sciences, Modern Languages, Classical Studies, Archaeology, Journalism and Linguistics: all united in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen.
So why choose Groningen?
Our exchange programmes give students a genuine taste of what student life in Groningen is like. Exchange programmes vary from 1 semester (September - February or February - July) to a full academic year, and can be arranged if your home university has an exchange agreement with the University of Groningen / Faculty of Arts.
See what other exchange students say about spending one semester in Groningen
“I would always encourage students to do an exchange at the RUG, because it is a well known university that is very well organized with a good contact between professors and students. A lot of practical experience is done through excursions which are possible, because the country is relatively small. It is easy to travel to different cities and visit institutions that are content of your studies.” (Linda, Germany)
“Enjoyed the experience from the first day (the semester is too short).” (Javier, Spain)
“I would definitely come to Groningen, when I was you! The city is beautiful! It has the perfect size for a student city – everything is near, but on the other hand is it not too small. Here are so many young people – it’s the youngest city in the Netherlands. The university is modern, although it’s one of the oldest in the country. There are so many cultural events in the city, like festivals for theatre, music, art! The only thing, that sucks, is the food (except for the cheese) but I love the market: here you can buy a lot of good stuff.” (Anika, Germany)
“First of all, doing a semester abroad is an amazing chance to experience something new and completely different, as well as possibly paving the way for post-graduate studies. Then, the University of Groningen is so well organized, it covers a huge range of subjects and the professors and staff couldn’t be more helpful.” (Ted, Greece)
