Centre for Ph.D's and Post-docs (PPC)

The centre for PhD students and Postdocs is an interfaculty study centre for women with an academic degree and scientific ambitions. They can perform research here part-time or fulltime, for example while waiting for a research position or while combining their research with care tasks. The centre does not pay a salary, but offers a stimulating workplace and a small research budget. The aim of the centre is to increase the number of women in scientific positions. The effectiveness of this formula is clear from the results of the precursor of the present centre, the Promotion Workplace for Women.

The facilities that come with a place in the centre include a workplace of your own with computer and print facilities, a pass for the University Library, access to the Internet, an email address, postal dispatching, the opportunity to take courses and the status of ‘career candidate’ at the Centre for Mobility and Training.

In total, the center for PhD students and Postdocs offers a places for ten female researchers (PhD students and/or Postdocs). The kind of research that is done within the centre varies enormously, both with regard to topic and discipline. For more information concerning the research of the PPC-members click here.

The PPC centre mainly aims at reaching women who have recently graduated, women who have had to put their career on hold temporarily, part-timers and women who have recently obtained their degree and want to work on the ‘spin-off’ of their thesis. Also foreign PhD students who temporarily live in The Netherlands but do not have access to research facilities, have found their way to the PPC centre.

An important condition that needs to be met in order to be admitted into the centre is that the research must be done under the supervision of a supervising professor. Those who wish to be considered for a research place at the centre should contact Prof.Dr. Mineke van Essen, chairwoman of the UCG. If there is no place available at the centre, there the possibility to be placed on a waiting list as a candidate member.
