International Humanitarian Action is a three semester interuniversity, multidisciplinary Master's programme that provides high quality academic education and professional competencies for persons working or intending to work in the area of international humanitarian action. The programme was initiated by the European Commisions Directorat General Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) in 1994, together with the Directorate-General Education and Culture of the EC. The European universities that offer the Master's programme in International Humanitarian Action are united in the Network on Humanitarian Assistance (NOHA) . The University of Groningen was admitted to this network in 1999. Since September 2000 the Humanitarian Action programme has been offered by the University of Groningen.
After successful completion of the programme in Groningen students receive a Master's degree in International Humanitarian Action, Faculty of Arts, of this university. Most of the NOHA graduates work in the field of humanitarian relief and international co-operation as representatives of international organisations and institutions, fund raisers, managers, administrators, researchers, evaluators, project monitors, lobbyists, consultants, medical doctors, among many other functions. Although care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of all information, there may be unintended errors and changes or deletions without notice. The matters covered by this website are subject to change from time to time both before and after a candidate’s admission.
