Programme

The Erasmus Mundus Master Programme "Euroculture – Europe in the wider world" is an interdisciplinary Master offered by a consortium of eight European universities recognized by the European Commission. It is a four semester, two years programme (120 ECTS credits). Euroculture students will at least study at two different European universities of the consortium. European students can even be selected to study at one of our non-European partner universities during the third semester.
For students applying and accepted at the University of Groningen, the University of Groningen is their home university. The University of Groningen is the host university for students attending the second semester in Groningen.

First semester

The first semester focuses on Europe and its history, ideas, culture, religion, legal matters and international relations, as well as the development of personal, academic and professional skills and competencies (in the Eurocompetence module). Students will have to start thinking of a thesis topic during the first semester. During the Eurocompetence seminars special attention will be paid to issues such as academic writing, time management, and C.V. writing.

Second semester

In the second semester, students follow the Euroculture research seminar “Europe in the Wider World” and the Eurocompetence module, in which student continue to develop their academic and professional skills and competencies.
During the first half of the second semester, students should define their thesis topic. The home and the host university will both appoint a supervisor for the thesis.
The second and third semester are linked by a 10-day Intensive Programme (IP) at one of the universities of the network.

Third semester

During the third semester, the student’s mobility depends on the track chosen, professional (placement) or research. The latter can be taken at either an European partner university or, in case of a European student, a non-European partner university.

Fourth semester

During the fourth semester a module will be offered in which the students have to prepare and write an application of either a research or professional project. The student can follow this module either at the home or host university.
The MA thesis (30 ECTS credits) will have to be written under the double supervision of home and host university.
