General Information


Aim and mission

The aim and mission of the Institute for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies is to provide optimal support in the organization and implementation of degree programmes. This support must be efficient, high quality and service oriented. The primary process, the teaching of degree programmes and modules by the academic staff, forms the heart of this process. The focus is on limiting bureaucratic processes to an acceptable minimum in accordance with legal, University and Faculty regulations. The Interne Organisatiestructuur [Internal organizational structure] memorandum (August 2003) identified the following concrete tasks, which are performed under the responsibility of the Director of the Institute:

Core tasks of the Institute for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies

To organize the teaching process in general and the degree programmes in particular
  • To ensure sufficient quality control of the degree programmes
  • To monitor the success rates of the degree programmes
  • To distribute teaching duties at department (degree programme) level
  • To facilitate professionalization and quality improvement of the academic staff in the area of teaching
  • To advise the Faculty Board on policy matters in the area of teaching
  • To organize and implement the information provision to students (including information guides and Course Catalogues).

In addition:

  • To implement all organizational and administrative activities necessary for the provision of university teaching. In concrete terms, this concerns the administration and organization of examinations and final assessments, module registration and organization, timetabling and the management of relevant administration systems, as well as information provision for and organization of placements, student and lecturer mobility, admission of foreign students on the basis of credentials assessment, organization of accommodation for foreign students, and the organization and administration of the Dutch Studies modules and Open Modules
  • To provide administrative support via cluster secretariats in the organization and implementation of programmes
  • To provide management information and other information, for example for University and Faculty annual reports, assessment visitations, resource planning, budgets, etc.
