Published: Essay collection Jan Pen, columnist and emeritus professor of economics
The essay collection 'Vandaag staat niet alleen. De beste essays van Jan Pen uit Hollands Maandblad' of the famous Groningen economist Jan Pen (1921-2010) is published this month. The emeritus professor of economics at the University of Groningen has published sparkling and still very current columns during his career. About malice and misunderstanding in the political economy, about the right and wrong of John Keynes, and last but not least also about Jan Pen himself, the economist, the Frisian, the blues pianist. In the new book are Pen's crystal clear essays are published side by side with very personal revelations about life, suffering and love.
Jan Pen was professor at our University from 1956-1986 and remained attached to the FEB even after his retirement as professor. He is one of the most important and influential economists the Netherlands has known. Besides many articles, Pen also wrote a series of books. His major work is "Moderne Economie" (1959).
