Dawkins lecture broadcast in three University halls via video link

The lecture by the renowned evolutionary biologist and author Richard Dawkins on 12 January can also be watched in three lecture halls at the University of Groningen. Tickets for the lecture ‘Darwin’s Five Bridges’ in the Nieuwe Kerk are sold out.

The lecture on 12 January can be followed live at the Offerhauszaal in the Academy Building (Broerstraat 5), the Aletta Jacobs Examination Hall (Blauwborgje 4) and Hall 151 in the Bernoulliborg (Nijenborgh 9). The halls will open at 7.30 p.m. and the lecture will start at 8 p.m. Admission is free and there is no need to sign up. The lecture will be given in English.

Dawkins U4 Star Lecture

Dawkins’s lecture will also be broadcast by the University of Groningen as a U4 Star Lecture so that students and staff of the University’s three partners in the U4 network can also attend the lecture via a video link.

U4 partner universities

The University of Groningen collaborates with the universities of Uppsala (Sweden), Göttingen (Germany) and Ghent (Belgium) in the U4 network. These four universities joined forces in a strategic partnership in 2008. The network focuses on cooperation in teaching and research projects, and staff and student exchanges at European and international level.

Dawkins visits Biology in Groningen

On 12 and 13 January 2012, Richard Dawkins will be the guest of honour at the official opening ceremony of the Linnaeusborg (Nijenborgh 7). Since 2011, the new building has been home to teaching and research in biology and life sciences for the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. In addition to the lecture, Dawkins will be joining a select group of biology and life sciences students for a debate behind closed doors, and on 13 January he will be officially opening the new building, together with Prof. Sibrand Poppema, President of the Board of the University.
