PhD programmes

PhD programmes in the Netherlands have a specific character. A PhD can be regarded as a highly individualized 4-year research project. Consequently, it is not possible to apply to a PhD position at the University of Groningen without having been accepted by a supervisor. This supervisor usually is an expert professor in your field of research.

Within EM ECW Lot 20 you can apply to a PhD position in the above mentioned fields. In general, English is the language of research.

Should you require assistance finding a possible supervisor, please contact the Project Director Prof. dr Hub. Hermans (h.l.m.hermans@rug.nl) or Joyce Fongers, MA (j.e.fongers@rug.nl, Office For International Relations).
