Opening soon: Puin Hoop: Reprinting the 1980s

GRID Graphic Museum Groningen presents Puin Hoop: Reprinting the 1980s. A thought-provoking exhibition about the past that turns out to be surprisingly relevant today. On view at the University Museum Groningen.
The 1980s: an era of shoulder pads, pop idols and neon colours. A decade of extremes and technological progress that we often look back on with a certain sense of nostalgia. But is that nostalgia really justified?
Because all that progress went hand in hand with economic stagnation, the endless search for housing, environmental problems and people losing touch with one another, while divisions in society continued to grow. Seen from that perspective, very little has changed. Forty years later, we are struggling with exactly the same problems.
Step into a world that, at first glance, seems very different from our own, but on closer inspection feels surprisingly familiar. Almost the same people, almost the same problems and almost the same mess. But where there is rubble, there is hope.
Explore surprising installations, discover remarkable printed works and experience contemporary artworks by emerging artists. Find out how times may change, but people really do not change all that much.
