Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are ubiquitously present in the environment as a consequence of their use in a large variety of products. Pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls, brominated flame retardants, phthalates and musk compounds are, among others, POPs. In conclusion, a large variety of POPs is present in the human body, leading to foetal exposure and possible infant toxicity.
