Title: Strategies to improve myocardial reperfusion after primary PCI. The value of pharmacological interventions and thrombus aspiration

Following acute myocardial infarction it is important to administer percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), but also to remove the thrombus that caused the infarction. A recently developed technique is now used for thrombus aspiration, which improves the outcome after acute myocardial infarction. A large study at the University Medical Center Groningen demonstrated the improved epicardial blood flow to the myocardium following this new procedure.
