The Max Gruber Foundation

.
.

Major activities are the organization of an annual Max Gruber Lecture and, biannually, the Max Gruber Prize award. In addition, the Foundation offers scholarships, sponsors meetings and visits abroad.

Established in 1983
The Foundation was established in 1983 by the late Professor Max Gruber (1921-1990), the founder of the Department of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Groningen in the early 1950's, and his wife Suzanne Gruber-Heijnemann (1913-2009), a renowned typographer. Since the death of her husband, Suzanne Gruber chaired the Board of the Foundation, seconded by Prof. Wil N. Konings, who served as acting-chairman till 2009, and encouraged by the close, life time research associates of Max Gruber Dr. Joop Bouma and Prof. Jaap Beintema. In 2008, the Foundation celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a memorable symposium, attended by many previous collaborators of the Gruber Laboratory.

Foundation Activities
The Max Gruber Foundation supports scientific meetings, including international conferences and minisymposia, and master classes and workshops on biochemical and cell biological topics in Groningen. The foundation may also sponsor other activities of students, postdocs and staff of the University of Groningen that promote Groningen Science.
Travel grants for individual attendance to conferences are NOT supported.

The Max Gruber Prize
Biannually the Max Gruber Prize is awarded to the best peer-reviewed publication produced by a PhD student of the University of Groningen in the above mentioned research areas.

The Max Gruber Lecture
Annually the Max Gruber Lecture is organized and for that purpose the Foundation invites a scientist, active at the fore-front of science, evidenced by contributions to major developments in (cell)biological or biochemical sciences, to present an overview of his or her work in Groningen.

Max Gruber Sponsor activities
