The Research Centre for Arts in Society (AiS) brings together research on the arts and their societal engagement and impact in the past and present. It hosts a multitude of disciplines including art history, art sociology, cultural heritage studies, film studies, environmental humanities, literary studies, musicology, and theatre and performance studies. Researchers in AiS carry out fundamental, applied, empirical, historical, and theoretical research, often in collaboration with cultural institutions, and engage in outreach activities on local, national and international level.

Arts in Society hosts Theme Groups and Centres of Expertise, that reflect ongoing research-interests by staff, PhDs, and postdocs and welcome interested colleagues to join their activities.
