International Security
IntroductionWhat do we actually desire when we seek International Security? Is it the absence of political violence or do we aim to understand the causes for this violence and the means to control them? In what manner did the international community hope to achieve international security in the past, was the international community successful and which lessons can be learned from its actions? These and other questions will be analyzed in depth in the Master program International Security. Violence and IR reflectionsQuestions of life and death are at the heart of the study of man and humankind, war and peace, strategy and diplomacy, and have challenged and inspired the Theory of IR throughout history. IR Theory, in turn, has guided the search for international order and for peaceful change, in particular. In this study track, the centrality of both the phenomenon of violence - in a broad sense - and IR reflections thereupon - in a metaphysical, theoretical and historical sense - are at stake.
