Introduction

What does the future hold for the European Union? Will the old but often forgotten founding idea of long lasting peace on the European continent hold firm in the 21st century? Or has the wish of the European political and economic elite for further and deeper integration outpaced the views of common Europeans? Are there alternatives for the ever progressing globalization, modernization and European integration? These and other questions are analyzed in-depth in the MA European Integration.

Analysis of the European Union

European Integration concerns the analysis of history, theory and policies of the European Union and her member states. It approaches the EU as a unique example of regional cooperation, characterized by intergovernmental and supranational, as well as political and economic elements. In addition, it is guided by a complex policy-making structure, in which the European, national and subnational levels to an increasing extent interact as a result of transnational and trans governmental cooperation. Apart from the fascinating theoretical discourse and the study of policy-making, the European Union has, in the course of time, proved to be a prolific provider of traineeships and jobs to IR students.
