Details DRM-platforms

There are two DRM-platforms you can use to read e-books online and offline:

1) Ebook Central
2) EBSCOhost eBooks

Offline reading of e-books

DRM- e-books are available for reading online as well as offline. For offline reading e-books must be downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions. ADE is freely available from the internet, for installation an Adobe ID is required. However for installation of ADE on your managed UWP PC no Adobe ID is needed.

Download Adobe Digital Editions

For installation of Adobe Digital Editions on your managed UWP2 PC:

- go to Workspace Preferences, place Adobe Digital Editions in your start-up menu
- go to Ebook Central or EBSCO and download the book at Adobe Digital Editions (ADE)
- ADE will start up and requestfor a supplier-id, please leave both fieldsempty and click at 'proceed' (down right)
- The next screen will appear confirming your PC is authorised withoutsupplier-id and the book can be downloaded

DRM platforms

1) Ebook Central (formerly ebrary, EBL e-book Library or MyiLibrary)

The library has a license on Ebook Central Academic Complete: a multi-disciplinary package with access to over 230,000 e-books. This set contains e-books accessible for an unlimited number of simultaneous users ("unlimited user"). Besides Academic Complete, the library has access to separate titles, in some cases only accessible for one to three users simultaneously ("limited user").

The user has to login one time only on the proxy screen when accessing the platform, with his or her University of Groningen account.

The books can be read on screen or they can be (partially) downloaded. In order to download (as in borrow) Ebook Central titles Adobe Digital Editions is required. You can borrow as much as 10 titles at one time.

  • Printing: ca. 5 % per title
  • Downloading (= copying): ca 25% per title

2) EBSCOhost eBooks

The library has a license on EBSCO eBook Academic Collection: a multi-disciplinary package with over 230,000 e-books. This set contains e-books accessible for an unlimited number of simultaneous users ("unlimited user").

Besides the Academic Collection, the library has access to separate titles.

The EBSCO e-books can be read online and they are searchable in EBSCOhost. For offline reading (up to 14 days) you have to make a personal login, with this you can download the e-book to your computer or mobile device.

For offline reading, the e-books must be downloaded (borrowed) to Adobe Digital Editions.
