UB and CMB opening hours: Christmas and New Year and the first week of January 2023 (January 2-8)

The UB will be open as much as possible during the holiday period around Christmas and New Year. In December and January, the opening hours will be:

Building UB CIty Centre

UB City Centre

23 & 24 December: 10 am - 5 pm
25 & 26 December: closed
27 - 30 December: 10 am - 5 pm
31 December: closed
1 January 2024: closed
On these dates, only the 1st and 2nd floors will be open.

Would you like to borrow a book from one of the study room collections on the 3rd and 4th floors? Please borrow it via the Service desk (ground floor).

Special Collections

Documentation Centre for Dutch Political Parties (DNPP)

18 December - 7 January: closed

24/7 Bookbox

The 24/7 Bookbox on the outside of the UB will be closed from 30 December to 1 January.

UB services UB City Centre between 23 December and 2 January

  • Requested books will be processed starting 2 January (Note: this also applies to ILL books). Therefore, it will take longer for books to be available in Selfservice A. You will receive a pickup notification.

  • Would you like to borrow a book from one of the study room collections on the 1st and 2nd floors? Please borrow it through Selfservice B (ground floor, at the bottom of the stairs). Do you need a publication from the 3rd and 4th floor? You can request it through SmartCat, or ask at the Service desk.

  • Requested lending cards will be processed starting 2 January.

UG-only and exam period

On 6 January 2024, the UG-only period will start again in the UB. This period is planned around the exam periods at UG faculties and begins some time before the start of the exam periods. In this period, the UB City Centre is only accessible to students and employees of the University of Groningen (and other UB pass holders). Hanze students do not have access to the UB during these periods. Alternative study places can be found in e.g. the Forum or at Hanzehogeschool.

  • UB City Centre: the UG-only period runs from 6 through 30 January. Opening hours at the UB City Centre in this period are: 8.30-00.00.
  • UB Zernike offers extended opening hours from 12 January until 1 February; opening hours are Monday through Friday: 9 am - 8 pm/Saturday & Sunday: 10 am - 6 pm

N.B.: During these periods, reserving a study place is required
