Doctor in law programme

The aim of GGSL's Doctor in Law Training Programme is to train PhD researchers to conduct high level legal research and to write a doctoral dissertation. The Training programme provides for a theoretical framework for legal research and for training of skills concerning project management, legal argumentation and oral and written communication of research results. Basically, the Training Programme is focussed on the research of the PhD researchers. This implies that the Training Programme has been set up to benefit the individual PhD research.

GGSL's Doctor in Law Training Programme consists of a Core Training Programme and Optional Courses. All PhD researchers take the 10 EC (European Credit, 1 EC corresponds to a work load of 28 hours) Core Training Programme and choose for at least 10 EC from the Optional Courses.

the Core Training Programme consists of the Starters' Course, in which skills are being trained which are important for conducting research. Furthermore, the Masterclass Methods of Legal Research and the Thematic Masterclass are part of the Core Training Programme. Finally, the yearly PhD Conference is part of the Core Training Programme.

From the Optional Courses, The PhD researcher may choose those courses that benefit his/her own research most. One methodological course and one thematic course should be taken. Furthermore, the PhD researcher may be invited to participate in the Summer School, a yearly event organized in cooperation with the partner universities of Ghent, Uppsala and Turku. The Summer School may replace any other optional course.
