The world we would like to see: Demands, expectations and implications for political reform.
What do people in Germany want to pass on to future generations? What do they want to see preserved? And what would they rather do without? These are the questions that form the core of the Legacy Study. For that study, more than 3,100 people aged between 14 and 80 years were surveyed all over Germany in 2015. In 2016, they were contacted again and interviewed. This produced answers to many other inquisitive questions, unfolding like a fan. Do people differ in what they want for the future? Do their wishes reflect their age, their generation and the social divisions in today’s society? How do the many faces of poverty, wealth and gender factor into this? What are the dynamics in individual sectors of society? How do people envision tomorrow’s workplace, which role will technology play in their lives, and what are the family models that people hope will emerge? What about their ideas regarding solidarity? The answers reveal respondents’ conceptions of society and highlight the areas in which political interventions are appropriate and necessary.
