Genderstudies investigate the gender relations in different social and cultural contexts. Within various faculties of the university of Groningen formal or informal genderstudies groups function. Their members are scholars doing research in the domain or giving courses about the subject. At the central level of the university genderstudies is also promoted, e.g. by organising the Aletta Jacobes lecture, by establishing the Jantina Tammes chair for genderstudies, and the membership of international genderstudies organisations.
