The opening ceremony of the Linnaeusborg took place on Friday 13 January 2012. The ceremony was performed by guest of honour Professor Richard Dawkins and President of the University Board, Professor Sibrand Poppema.

On the evening before the opening ceremony Dawkins gave a public lecture in Groningen entitled ‘Darwin’s Five Bridges’. Furthermore, he entered into debate with a select group of our biology students.

We were exceptionally honoured to have Richard Dawkins as our guest. Dawkins is renowned evolutionary biologist and one of the world’s eminent writers on evolution theory. He is co-founder of the Foundation for Reason and Science and has been elected to the British Royal Society for his contribution to science and the Royal Society of Literature for his achievements as an author.
