Financial aspectsFinancial support through the Zernike Institute for Advanced MaterialsThe Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials mediates in obtaining financial support from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, to help cover the costs of printing your PhD thesis. The following rules apply for all those who defend a PhD thesis in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, with the exception of FOM OiOs. To receive financial support through the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials for printing costs, the PhD student should do the following:
The grant is limited to € 850. The amount to be paid plus the € 750,- paid by the university library (see below) shall not exceed the total of the printer's bill.

In addition to the 8-digit ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) which denotes a book series you may Financial support from FWNThe following subsidy will be phased out. It is only available to PhD students whose employment contract started prior to 1 September 2008); bursary students are never eligible for this subsidy. FWN provides additional financial support to stimulate the timely completion of your thesis. A grant of € 1000 is awarded to all Ph.D.-candidates who are employed by the University, provided they defend their thesis no later than four years and three months after the start of their contract. (Note that bursary students and FOM students do not qualify for this support.)

Financial support from RUGThe University provides financial support upon delivery of a specified number of theses to the University Library. Please see the rules in Appendix 9 of the Rules for the PhD.
