Mission Statement
The group Ionic Materials is involved in research of ionic materials with high concentrations of defects, which are often created by ionizing radiation. At this moment there are two important research activities: (i.) radiation damage investigations of NaCl and other insulating materials in connection with the storage of high level waste (HLW) of nuclear power plants in natural rock salt formations and (ii.) the development of a new method of thermoluminescence dating of minerals, using mineral zircon (ZrSiO
4).
