The gzipped tar archive template-thesis.tgz contains several files to generate a PhD thesis. Short explanations can be found as comments in the files which need editing. These files are as follows:
-
thesis.tex: Main LaTeX file which defines the general format of the manuscript, the division
in chapters and their layout. It uses the command "include" to incorporate in each of the chapters. Most convenient for saving compilation time, you can choose to compile only one chapter (the one which you are editing) by modifying the argument of the "includeonly" command. For further explanations, please refer to the comments to be found within the file.
-
thesis_acknowledgements.tex : Self-explanatory, you have to provide the text with acknowledgements.
-
chapter_3.tex: Example of a chapter. Here, you have to put accordingly the text of a chapter. Of
course, one can create as many chapters as needed (chapter_4.tex, etc.), but taking care to add a corresponding "include{chapter_4}" command in the "thesis.tex" file. For examples on how to use figures, tables, citations and indexes please have a look inside the file.
-
thesis_bibliography.bib: Bibliographical files containing the needed citations (see the provided examples on how an entry should look like). Here, you have to provide your own bibliographical
references (if you already have a Bib file, just copy it in the current directory and rename it as "thesis_bibliography.bib")
The other files are provided only to customise certain layout options (captions, bibliographical entries, etc.). In principle, if your LaTeX packages installation is complete, they should not need any editing.
