De Sitter Lecture Series

The Centre for Theoretical Physics of the University of Groningen has initiated an annual “De Sitter Lecture Series” which will be given by the world-renowned scientists. The main aim of the lecture series is to bring graduate students to the forefront of research in the established and newly emerging fields of theoretical physics. The lectures are open to students and staff members of all Dutch universities and research institutes.

The lecture series is named after Willem de Sitter (1872-1934), Dutch theoretical physicist who studied mathematics at the University of Groningen and worked at the Groningen astronomical laboratory. He collaborated with A. Einstein and became famous for his seminal results on observable consequences of the theory of general relativity.

Lecturers are also invited to give an evening lecture for a general audience, to stimulate public interest in recent developments in physics.
