PhD scholarships and vacanciesWays of financially supporting your PhD at the Graduate School of SciencePhD students at the Groningen Graduate School of Science are supported throughout the course of their four-year research programme by funding from two main sources; for details, please see the menu on the left. (1) Most PhD projects are funded by individual research groups (see PhD vacancies). Vacancies for such positions are usually advertised on our website under the "news" section, on the RUG website and on Academic Transfer. (2) There is a variety of funds where students can apply for a PhD scholarship based on an individual application (see PhD scholarship programmes). Typical sources of support include grants obtained abroad (e.g. in a foreign student’s home country), or exchange programmes like the EU Erasmus Mundus programme that provides opportunities for students to obtain funding for a collaborative PhD with one of our partner universities. In previous years, a number of scholarships were available through the Ubbo Emmius Scholarship Programme (for details of past competitions, see Ubbo Emmius programme). This programme is currently not running.
