Research centre CIBIF provides training to microfinance inspectors National Bank of Rwanda

The Centre for international banking, insurance and finance (CIBIF) of the Faculty of Economics and Business won a grant from Nuffic  to provide training to  inspectors of the National Bank of Rwanda (NBR) on regulating and supervising the microfinance sector.

In a two month period, staff members from Accountancy, Accounting, Econometrics and Finance, will organize courses in Kigali (the capital of Rwanda) on microfinance regulation, microfinance accounting, microfinance risk management, and microfinance audit. In addition, a practical audit of four MFIs will be supervised.

The training will equip inspectors of NBR with the necessary skills and tools to be able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of internal control systems of micro finance institutions, effectively enabling them to perform the required regulatory and supervisory roles of the Central Bank. Indirectly, the training  guarantees  an efficient and functional microfinance sector that provides funds to small enterprises in order to minimize financial exclusion.
